At NutritionRx, our team has extensive training and specialization in Sports Nutrition, and we’re one of the leading centres in Southwestern Ontario for sports nutrition counselling.
We’ve been selected by Hockey Canada to be one of their designated nutrition coaching sites to work with national team athletes, and we’ve worked with NHL, OHL, Team Canada, and varsity hockey players, as well as Canadian- & provincial-level marathon runners, triathletes, x-country runners, weight lifters, rowers, wrestlers, lacrosse players, soccer players, rugby players, CrossFitters, and people who love to hang out at the gym!
Here’s what we focus on in our sports nutrition sessions:
- What to eat before, during, and after exercise
- Macronutrient timing
- Post-workout recovery nutrition
- Building lean muscle mass
- Fat loss/body composition changes
- Individualization of calories, macro-, and micro-nutrient requirements using our Computerized Diet Analysis technology to support your training volume and athletic goals
- Review of supplements and individualized recommendations
- Hydration strategies
- Recovery from injury
- Nutrition strategies to prepare for upcoming athletic events (i.e. marathon, triathlon, team tryouts, sports tournaments, or provincial/national/international-level competition)
- Making weight safely for competition (i.e. lightweight rowing & coxies, wrestling, Olympic weight lifting, martial arts, etc.)
- Healing from disordered eating and exercise addiction
- Overcoming a plateau in weight loss/fat loss when you’re exercising regularly, consistently eating healthy foods, and feel like you’re doing everything right but are stuck (sometimes a fresh set of professional eyes can help)!
Body Building & Bikini Show Prep:
Please note that we do not write meal plans or coach individuals heavily focused on body building or bikini show prep. We encourage ALL forms of physical activity and doing what you love to stay fit (no judgment here!), however, at NutritionRx, we prioritize long-term health, athletic performance, and non-dieting goals in our nutrition sessions. Designing highly restrictive meal plans just doesn’t jive with the majority of athletes and active individuals we work with, especially those who are recovering from disordered eating and/or extensive dieting from their past.
Please note, however, that we have worked with numerous retired body builders and stage athletes who have gained weight after competing and have gone through a nutrition reset with us to return to a healthy body composition, heal from metabolic damage, and improve their relationship with food and exercise. In those cases, we are happy to help, so don’t feel shy about reaching out to us!
