Motivational Quotes: “If it’s important, you’ll find a way. If it’s not, you’ll find an excuse.”

This is a very powerful quote that is often in my mind when counselling clients to make meaningful, lasting positive changes to their lifestyle.  Eating healthy foods, exercising regularly, packing lunches, making home-cooked dinners using REAL foods, managing stress without turning to food, getting enough sleep… these elements are all critical to achieving a healthy weight and living well, but they do take time, effort, and planning.  Life will never be stress-free, there will always be obstacles, and I hate to break it to you, but that “perfect time” to lose weight, eat better, and exercise more is never going to come.

So… it’s not about waiting for the right time to get healthy, it’s about taking small steps every day to live life in accordance with your values.  If you value health, happiness, and physical and mental well-being, then making the time to prepare and eat healthy foods and be physically active are things that need to become non-negotiable in your everyday life.  There will always be obstacles, distractions, and unexpected barriers in life.  Let go of thinking in black & white / all or nothing terms.  It’s not about eating and exercising perfectly every day (or doing nothing if you feel like you can’t), it’s about trying your best given your current situation and committing to the journey of healthy living.  So put those excuses aside, and start with a goal that is small, yet meaningful, that you can do today to live well. Remember: “If it’s important, you’ll find a way.  If it’s not, you’ll find an excuse.”
