The Power of No: Because One Little Word Can Bring Health, Abundance, and Happiness
I’m current reading The Power of No: Because One Little Word Can Bring Health, Abundance, and Happiness by James Altucher and Claudia Azula Altucher and wanted to share one of their exercises that particularly stood out to me in their book.
It’s called, The Daily Practice to Get Unstuck, and it’s a checkbox of items you should be doing every day to maximize your health, happiness, and to surrender to a universe whose best intentions align with your own. If you can check off each item listed below most of the time, you’re doing really well:
- Physical: Sleep well, eat well, exercise often, and avoid addictions.
- Emotional: Only associate and engage with the people you love, the people who inspire you, and the people you inspire.
- Mental: Always be reading, discussing, and writing down new ideas.
- Spiritual: Cultivate a sense of gratitude for the abundance you have right now. Surrender to what you can’t control.
The authors’ advice is to run through the checklist every day to assess if you are taking care of each area of self-care that best delivers a happy, healthy, and abundant life. If not, no pressure; just work on fitting them back into your life one by one. Start with one item, or two, and eventually you will be back in great shape.
If you haven’t read this book yet, I highly recommend it and include it on my reading list for the nutrition clients I work with.
Happy Reading,

Book Summary:
How many times have you heard yourself saying yes to the wrong things – overwhelming requests, bad relationships, time-consuming obligations? How often have you wished you could summon the power to turn them down? This lively, practical guide helps you take back that power-and shows that a well-placed “No” can not only save you time and trouble, it can save your life.
Drawing on their own stories as well as feedback from their readers and students, James Altucher and Claudia Azula Altucher clearly show that you have the right to say no: To anything that is hurting you. To standards that no longer serve you. To people who drain you of your creativity and expression. To beliefs that are not true to the real you. When you do, you’ll be freed to say a truly powerful “Yes” in your life – one that opens the door to opportunities, abundance, and love.
Wishing you health & happiness,
♡ Jen
